Cadets Honor Heroes From 9/11 With Ceremony on Campus
This morning,
cadets lined up in formation on our parade field at 8:35 am. At 8:46 am, the
exact time the first plane struck the World Trade Center’s North Tower, our
cannon fired and a bell was tolled on the Howe Fire Department tanker truck in
memory of those who lost their lives the morning of September 11, 2001. A prayer
was said by the school’s superintendent and chaplain. The National Anthem and
Amazing Grace were sung by cadets of our school choir, and bagpipes were played
by Mark Gropp. Major Tam Haas ‘60 described his experience as
captain on Delta 83 inbound to JFK that morning. For the past ten years, The
Howe School has held a 9/11 memorial service with the entire student body and
members of the local community to honor the heroes who made sacrifices on that
fateful morning.
