On August 11, 2012, Howe cadets participated in a basketball
clinic put on by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
A member of the Mad Ants coaching staff, a Mad Ants player, and a member
of the U.S. Army conducted a basketball workout along with some physical fitness
training conducted by the Army. Clinics are held in the off-season to get kids
energized about fitness. They want to
make kids’ health a priority, not a goal.
Children that stay active and exercise are more likely to live longer,
healthier lives. Cadet Battalion
Commander Simon Holzer said, “This experience served the cadets in many
different ways. It strengthened us and
gave us a basic knowledge of basketball.
Most importantly it taught us the importance of teamwork and
effort. Through the strenuous physical
activities and tiring drills, we learned that through the Army and basketball,
teamwork and friendship can truly be taught.
The Corps of Cadets participated in every activity, and we performed to
the best of our abilities. We hope to
host the Mad Ants again.”
